Fraud is Britian's Number One Crime

Fraud is Britian's Number One Crime

This is according to the City of London Police and the situation is getting worse.

The fact is that you are more likely to be the victim of fraud than any other type of crime.

In the first few months of the Covid-19 pandemic, there were more than 2,500 reports to Action Fraud and losses exceeded £8 million, mostly in online fraud.

There were more than 320,000 frauds reported to action fraud last year alone.

The City of London Police are working with the National Crime Agency to catch these criminals and bring them to justice.

Online fraud can seem victimless but the reality is far from the truth, people are often left out to pocket and emotionally distressed by these online cyber criminals activities.

If you do receive an unsolicited call, email or text message, stop and think. Are you being asked for personal information or financial details?

Firstly if in doubt DO NOT give out any personal or financial information to an unknown caller no matter how persistent they are.

Secondly DO NOT give out your personal or financial information without confiriming that any messages you receive are genuine, however convincing they may look.

Thirdly DO NOT open text or email links unless you are sure they are genuine, if in doubt just delete them and contact the sender directly if you feel it necessary.

If you are at work let the IT department know about any suspicious calls or messages straightaway so that they can investigate potential fraudulent activities.

Sadly these criminals still exist and are not going away anytime soon, if you do fall victim please report it to Action Fraud (0300 123 2040 or action fraud.police.uk).
