The Role
The University of Manchester operates one of the largest campus networks in the UK and we are looking for two Network Engineers to join our team. These roles will be working under the direction of our strategic Network partner (Roc Technologies) on a day-to-day basis, you will support Level 1 & 2 management of our LAN and Data Centre networks, handling incidents and service requests across our campus as assigned.

You will work within a team comprised of both University and Roc colleagues that is focused on incident and break-fix resolution for the campus network. Day-to-day direction over tasks and priorities will come from our network partner (Roc) and you will be responsible for resolving incidents and fulfilling service requests across our LAN and Data Centre networks working in conjunction with our partner’s NOC service. You will also be working with the wider network and telecoms team to develop and continuously improve our services.

In return, the University will provide you with exposure to the latest in HPE Aruba & Arista technologies and an opportunity to contribute towards the development of one the largest software defined campus networks within the UK.

Specific Role Requirements
The successful candidates will be self-starters with the ability to work in a team or alone on time critical tasks. You will be professional and diligent. It is imperative that you have a positive ‘can-do’ attitude’ and can work well as part of a hybrid delivery-focused team.

You will already possess some of the following experience:

  • Network (LAN and wireless) troubleshooting experience either with Cisco or Aruba technology.
  • Experience of working in a service support function, dealing with customers to resolve issues and answer their questions.
  • Ability to quickly assess outages and identify the likely root cause.
  • Experience of network security.
  • Analytical with strong attention to detail – able to identify and articulate issues to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to work to tight timescales without sacrificing quality.
