Database Manager Vacancy London

Location: Dr Foster Unit, School of Public Health, Imperial College London, 3 Dorset Rise, London, EC4Y 8EN and Charing Cross Campus, Hammersmith London W6.

Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in computing and experience in database management to join the Dr Foster Unit (DFU) at Imperial College research team. The post holder will manage the databases, the systems infrastructure and lead on information governance (IG) to support the unit’s work activities.

Duties and responsibilities

You will be responsible for the efficient management of the unit’s Microsoft SQL Server databases.

You will focus on database development, programming, data loading, processing and generating data extracts. This work fulfils a critical role within the unit's core research activities involving interpretation of health data and supporting the Dr Foster Unit’s work activities.

There is plenty of scope for academic research in this data rich environment and you will be expected to contribute to this through database management, advising researchers and statisticians who are leading the development of further innovative methods for the purpose of monitoring and surveillance of health outcome.

You will join a team involved in the development and validation of indicators of quality and safety in healthcare.

Essential requirements

You will need to have a numerate scientific degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in a computing or scientific subject involving databases and programming. A MSc or PhD or equivalent experience will be an advantage. Extensive knowledge of database technologies especially in client-server database administration and strong programming skills are essential. Experience of using health data is also desirable.
